Who am I?

I was born in Denmark in 1981; from there I have lived in several other parts of Europe. Although I spent the majority of my life growing up between Ibiza, Spain - Dublin and Clare, Ireland.

My family moved to the countryside in Co. Clare so that I could attend the Cooleenbridge Waldorf Steiner School. I then attended Scarriff Community College to do my Leaving Certificate. Moving on from there I went to Galway to complete a BSc in Experimental Physics at the N.U.I. Galway.

After university I took sometime to work in the "real" world. This I did for Deloitte in Barcelona, Spain. I quickly decided to head back to Science and particularly to engineering. I wanted to apply the theoretical knowledge I had gained in a practicle way.

I began the Doctoral Programme in the UPC Barcelona of Space Science and Technology (DoCTA). Under the supervision of Ignasi Casanova I began work on the application of nanotechnology for space applications. This is how I learned about nanotechnology.
I was also introduced to the International Space University (ISU) and in particular their Summer Session Programme of 2006. I was especially interested to join in 2006 to participate in the Team Project (TP) "MiNI - Micro and Nanotechnology Initiative". A thesis on the applications of nanotechnology to the space sector, and its implications for: industry, economy, policy and law.

While seaking funding for the ISU SSP'06 I was fortunate to receive positive responses from Enterprise Ireland and FAS. And the ISU helped me gain funding through the European Space Agency.
FAS did not support my attendance at the summer programme, but they offered instead a Six Month Internship at Rice University. This is the FAS Science Challenge.

I attended Rice University for six months as an intern working on the issue of Single Walled Carbon Nanotubes (SWNT, or 'swint') Amplification, under the supervision of Dr Andrew Barron. I was then successful in attaining Graduate position in the Department of Chemistry, that I took eagerly.

Following the internship I returned to Barcelona, once there I made contact with my various friends I had made through the ISU network. I was informed of the space hotel postion and when I heard the details I took the job instantly, working for CTAE.
For nearly three months I worked as a Junior Engineer for the Galactic Suite Space hotel (GSS). Needless to say I learned an incredible amount, and I enjoyed my work and my summer there thoroughly.

Sadly I had to leave Barcelona half way through the GSS project, as I had to begin graduate school in Rice University. This is where I am now.

My hobbies and interests vary from Sailing to Dj'ing, Soccer and Aikido, reading and writing. And of course Space & Space Tourism and Nanotechnology.

I hope you enjoy the site, and I am eager to hear any comments or responses from you.
